Perry is the daughter of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as as seen through flashback) Her mother portrayed Jackie Harris in two of Perry's first TV roles. Her parents did not allow her to start acting by her parents until an adulthood stage, because they were concerned about the anxiety it could create. Perry acknowledged that she was not at ease in the stage during high school. However, she began acting to connect with new people during her time at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry was able to land small TV roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent when she finished her degree. The feeling of homelessness, however, brought her back to California again where she began performing in the stage. In 2013 she performed in The Other Place on Broadway alongside her mother. Her father Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning drama Anna Christie alongside her in the year 2015. Perry appeared in 9 episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. In 2017, she had a minor role on the ABC political drama Scandal which starred her father. The actress also portrayed her older Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon which was a CBS spin-off from The Big Bang Theory. The role was offered to her in an audition that was open despite being connected to this role.
